Serena Williams had a tough year in 2006. She was injured a lot then and she had a few court cases for example the one of the murder of her sister Yetunde. Serena came back to the tour and almost no one expected her to do well at this edition of the Australian Open. Sharapova however enjoyed a fabulous season in 2006 winning the US OPEN that year. Both players reached the final and the question was would Sharapova continue her Grand Slam winning streak or would Serena rise again from the ashes.
